BRAAI
FESTIVAL
The braai festival at Barbara Bistro
restaurant reached its 5th anniversary in 2014.Every year the
largest festival is being hosted in different regions of the country and brings
the top musicians Jazz, classical music, rock music and popular music
attracting over thousands chefs and cooks of Botswana, to show case the skill
and experience in braai different meats e.g. pork, lamb, beef, chicken, turkey
and goat meat. It also brings different of people from different sides of the
country. The major challenge for the event was time.
TIME
MANAGEMENT
According to Bowdin et al
(2012) states that time management is setting the time scale for each task. The
event was supposed to start at 1500hrs but because of the delays as some chefs
had not set-up their braai stands the event started three hours after. For a successful
event an event planner should recommend a personal planning tool to improve
your productivity (Chapman and Rupturd 2008) which are action plan, pocket
diaries, calendars and wall charts. At the event it showed that the planner did
not organize the logistics of the event as people were confused of were to
set-up the braai, he was doing everything without delegating people. Delegation
means assigning responsibility for a task to someone else, freeing up some of
your time for tasks that require your expertise (Morgenstern,2004) The event
plan should have delegated some duties to appropriate person to do them, to
save time and make a successful event.
